General Information
Mogilev State University is licensed to conduct educational practices in the sphere of professional education as of April 1, 1999, 24G - 0233.

The university charter was adopted during a Mogilev State University conference, ratified by the Department of General and Specialized Education of the RB, and registered in the Mogilev City Registration Chamber.

A Brief History
The path of development for Mogilev State University has been long and difficult. The university dates back to December 1, 1893, when the Dorgunovich Private Pedagogical School was first opened in Mogilev. In 1917, Dorgunovich University was reformed into Mogilev Teacher's Institute, and later became Kalinin Pedigogical Institute. September 1, 1970 marks a significant date in the history of this school: it was reorganized into Kalinin State University, the 20th university of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) and the 52nd university in the USSR. The university's grand opening took place a bit later, on February 18, 1972 in the Drama Theater of Kalinin. Present at the grand opening ceremony were distinguished guests from Moscow: the Minister of Higher and Secondary Education, V. N. Stoletov, and his vice-president, A.N. Popov; the Director of the Central Administrative Board of the Department of Higher and Secondary-Specialist Education, I.S. Dubinin; and representatives from Moscow, Leningrad, Belarussian, Mariski, Yaroslavl, and Petrozavodsk universities.
In 1991 Kalinin State University received its current title: Mogilev State University.

Present Status
In accordance with general requirements, Mogilev State University carries out fundamental, exploratory, applied, and systematic scientific research, which is an indispensable component of training specialists. University scientific research and innovation activities are conducted in fields that correspond with various majors offered by the university. Students may choose from the following majors:

Scientific research activities are planned in accordance with approved scientific and technical programs or agreements. The planning process of proposed exploratory research projects corresponds with thematic plans approved by the Academic Council. Scientific research is financed by:

  • Budget allocations, including those designated for scientific programs
  • Monies received as a result of implementing economic contracts
  • Various funds
  • Bank credit
  • University resources
  • Donations
  • Other authorized sources

The degrees of higher education awarded by Mogilev State University are modeled after governmental standards and are effective throughout the RB. Individuals who have completed the education process at the University may earn the following documents authorized with the official seal of the RB:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Specialist's Degree (for specialists with higher education)
  • Master's Degree
  • Certificate designating incomplete higher education
  • Authorized documentation designating incomplete higher professional education
